The right of the child to participation is at the core of recognizing children as rights
holders, and a central idea of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
There is movement in the right direction; yet one of the main messages from children
around the world is that they do not feel that they are listened to and taken seriously
by adults.
There is a need to put in place structures and procedures for involving children in all
kinds of decisions affecting them, including policy decisions at local and national level,
not as a tokenistic gesture, but rather ensuring their real influence.
